The amendment will be part of the city’s charter forever and may prevent us from adopting new technology. A Mag-Lev may or may not be banned as it doesn’t run on rails. The city may very well be able to construct a $1.2 billion dollar Mag-Lev line like the one in Shanghai but not be allowed to invest $128 million (much of it coming from a federal match) in a streetcar system.


One thing is for certain, because it is so broadly and poorly written, the Anti-Passenger Rail Amendment will result in expensive and time consuming litigation for the City, will delay or prevent the City from receiving Federal Funding, and effectively shut down all rail planning in the region until the Amendment is repealed. Keep Cincinnati Moving Forward—Vote NO on Issue 9.
